“Green” Clean Water Available at Verandah

Currently all drinking water in the “bubblers” distributed around campus comes from six large distillers on campus. These distillers require a large percentage of the electrical power consumed on campus, and they run 24/7.

BIG Thanks to our PTA!

The Fall Harvest Picnic organized by our PTA was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the rainy season, and the end of our first quarter of the school year. More than 1,000 people joined us for family picnics on the lawn, music, games, activities and more. The Fall Festival Labyrinth was an ingenious highlight, filled with student art celebrating harvest festivals around the world and throughout history!

Book Club!

The library is excited to announce a new book club for any interested adult community members. This is the first of several book discussions to be offered by our library this year. No need to commit for longer than one month!

Holiday Break: Keeping a Balance

During the coming week, students and teachers will have time off from school. This is a time for refreshing and recharging our batteries. This is important for students and for teachers – learning is an intense process and makes many demands on students and teachers.

Respecting Creative Work: Being Principled

This month, high school advisory groups are focusing on the IB Learner Profile aspect of being “principled.” The IBO describes these types of learners: “They act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and communities. They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompany them. ”

Creativity: A Vital Skill for the 21st Century

“Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way.” -Edward de Bono, physician, inventor, and pioneer of “lateral thinking.”

It is all too easy to lose our appreciation of creativity as children move through their school years. The early days of drawings, art projects, storytelling, singing, and dancing that are so important to human development and learning can easily be pushed aside in favor of other learning: "correct" writing, mathematics, sciences, and humanities.

Quarter 1 Reports and Grades

Quarter 1 ends next week on 17 October and the reports will be available for the Parent Teacher Conferences on 1 and 2 November. The purpose of ICS reports is to communicate student effort and achievement according to ICS standards to parents. The Quarter 1 report is a progress report based on student learning so far this semester. It reports on effort and achievement separately. The Quarter 1 report should be viewed not as a summative grade but as a snapshot of the student’s current level of achievement.

ICS Facility Use Policy

The facilities at the ICS are for the priority use of our students, staff, PTA events, and school programs. Staff members and PTA officers may book certain facilities through the school online booking system. The school does not rent facilities to others. All use is subject to the following rules and criteria:

Fall Harvest Picnic Volunteers Needed

Your participation is needed for the Fall Harvest Picnic. A vital part of this event is volunteer support. This year we are asking parents to volunteer 30 minutes of their time to help make the Fall Festival Picnic a success. We have several areas where we need volunteers: games, arts and crafts, volunteer station, and front gate ticket sales.
