The Booster Club raises funds to supplement student travel to ISSEA activities and athletic events. We also assist the school in student recognition of participation and outstanding achievement in our after school programs. Currently we seek new members who would like to contribute their time and energy to improve our school's activities and athletics department. Please contact me by email or by phone (0915-946-055) for more information.

Merit Scholarship Winners

On Tuesday, we welcomed the four winners of the ICS Merit Scholarship and their families to the ICS campus. Families were given an orientation to our campus, admissions and business offices while the four students joined the audience for the IB sciences "Group 4 Project" presentations from our grade 11 class. We then held a traditional coffee ceremony on the lawn in honor of the students and their families joined by high school teachers, students and members of the ICS community.

Campus Access

At this time of the year, with high school students preparing for exams and ASAs coming to a close, parents are kindly reminded of the following policies for middle and high school students which were created to ensure the safety of all students.

ICS Booster Club Pub Night

The ICS Booster Club raises funds to provide financial activity travel assistance to students in need. The overall goal is to be sure ICS is represented overseas with its strongest students be it for sports events or performing and fine arts opportunities. Increasing the profile of students participating in activities at ICS through thoughtful recognition is also a Booster Club goal. Please come and support the ICS Booster Club fundraiser Pub Night on Saturday 1 June at 7:00 PM in the school gym.

Parenting Tips for Getting Along: Parents and Children

1) Learn about techniques for resolving conflict peacefully, and teach them to your family. Ask your school guidance counselor or a professional counselor to recommend reading materials on this topic, or see if workshops or seminars are available in your community.

2) Show affection and verbally support your children as much as possible.

3) Spend time together as a family.

IBDP Year One and Year Two Updates

IBDP Year Two: IBDP final exams continue until 22 May. Students have been composed and well prepared throughout the sessions so far. As the exams wear on, students can become fatigued and less resistant to stress. Parents can assist their children by ensuring that they are free from distraction, well rested and remain focused throughout the entire exam period.

Class of 2013 Graduation Ceremony — Friday 24 May

The ICS Class of 2013 and their families and invited guests, along with their teachers, will take part in their Graduation Commencement Ceremony on Friday 24 May. A buffet reception will follow the ceremony. Seating and space are limited, so ticket-holders only will be admitted.

MS Community Time

This week the students participated in a trial run of something we currently call "Fit Up" during house activity on Wednesday morning (photos). Research on the brain continues to show the incredible impact of exercise on the adolescent brain. According to a renowned expert in the field, Dr. JoAnn Deaks, 20-30 minutes of exercise helps wake up the brain and keeps the neurons of the brain firing for up to four hours.

Collaborating. . .or cheating?

If we accept the notion that “effective collaboration is a 21st century skill,” then our teaching and learning should focus on the careful development of social learning skills. Why “careful”?

Parenting Tips for Friends

1) Get to know your children's friends and their friends' parents or guardians, if possible.  Make your home a welcoming place for your children and their friends.

2) Help your children learn how to resolve conflicts peacefully.  Teach them a "feelings vocabulary" so they know how to express their emotions directly and constructively.  Read about techniques for conflict resolution and share what you learn with your children.
