Last year the ICS Board of Governors opened up its communication plan to listen to more parents in the school. Throughout the year, each Board member met with a small group of parents who were selected at random from our directory. This allowed our Board to hear from many people who would not normally speak up about the school. Six "Meet the Board" meetings were held with a total of 35 parents; the ideas, comments and suggestions that were shared in those meetings were included in the Board's retreats in May and June.

Dear parents,
Welcome to the Board Corner of the Yezare Samint. For those of you who are returning, welcome back, and for those who are new, welcome to ICS Addis. Our student enrollment continues to grow and we have now crossed the 700 mark.

Over the summer, infrastructure improvements were made to prepare for the additional enrollment. We are waiting for final land lease approval to begin construction on the new building as envisioned in the master plan.

On 13 June, the 2010-2011 Board had its last meeting. The Board of Governors wishes to thank everyone for a great school year and hopes that everyone has a wonderful summer break.

New Director
The recruitment process of the director is one of the primary responsibilities of a school board. The new director search and selection process was completed with the involvement of parents and staff in October.

The ICS Addis Board of Governors will hold its final Open Meeting of the year on Monday night, 13 June, in the student cafeteria. Association members are welcome to attend at 7:00 PM. The agenda for the open session includes the following:

Upcoming Board Elections: 19 April 2011

In November and April the Association General Meeting (AGM), takes place. This is in an opportunity for both the Board and the Administration to brief the Members of the Association on the school's academic, social, extracurricular and financial statuses.

ICS Board of Governors Announces New Director

To the Members of the Association,

After an extensive Director’s search, the ICS Board of Governors is pleased to announce that Mr. Jim Laney has accepted the offer to become the new ICS Director for the next three years effective July 1st, 2011.

As is common practice in many international schools around the world, his spouse will be entitled to work at the school in either a part-time or full time capacity for any position that she may be qualified to hold. Any job offer made to her will require board approval prior to commencing work.

One of our Board of Governors’ most critical roles is hiring the School Director. This month our Board’s search process will come to a head, as we try to find the best match to lead ICS Addis forward for the next few years.
