Message from Board 

Dear Members of the Association:
Happy New Year! We trust that you all had safe, relaxing holidays with family and friends.
By now, many of you have heard the news that the Board of Governors has made the decision not to offer the Director
a new contract. What this means is that the Director will fulfill the remaining time on his contract and the duties of
his position until June 2011. This was a very difficult decision to make and it was a decision of the entire Board. Last
night, there were many teachers and parents who attended the Board meeting to show support for the Director.
As members of the ICS Board, we realize that not all decisions that we are tasked with making will be popular ones.
Some of these decisions may seem illogical or even irresponsible, and not representative of the wishes of the larger
ICS community. There are some who will be neutral in their opinions of Board decisions, while others support the
Board and feel that we are reasonable, professional and responsible people with the ultimate best interest of ICS
and our children at heart. As Col. Anderson, the Chair of the ICS Board of Governors explained last night, the Board
has one sole employee, the Director. The Board is responsible for making prudent decisions without dual or personal
interest for the best of the school now and in the future. Regrettably, matters related to an employee’s contract
and performance cannot be transparent and are not made public.
We thank the teachers, parents and staff who came out in support of the Director last night. A cohesive, collegial
group of dedicated educators is what we all want to be a part of at ICS. This Board and previous Boards has been
the compass for this school. Along with the Director we have set the direction, the strategic objectives, academic
goals, provided the guidance, funding, and have mandated many of the outcomes that we all enjoy as parents, employees
and students. We have created and held fast to a vision for ICS. The Director, principals and the teachers
who work each and every day with our children and seek to guide and teach them are the implementers of the vision
and the values of ICS. So, please keep in mind that there are many who have set this school on a positive course,
one we hope will continue to go from good to great.
