Program

The technology program at ICS is designed to develop our students skills in using a wide variety of tools to learn, create, collaborate and contribute. We structure technology lessons to be integrated with other areas of the curriculum, and create learning opportunities for students that allow them to use their skills holistically.

Our technology program sets high standards for students. We have adopted the NETS-S (National Educational Technology Standards for Students), published by ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education):

  1. Creativity and Innovation: Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.
  2. Communication and Collaboration: Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.
  3. Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate and use information.
  4. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making: Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.
  5. Digital Citizenship: Students understand human, cultural and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior.
  6. Technology Operations and Concepts: Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems and operations.

Students receive instruction in technology skills from PreK through to 12th grade, in both stand-alone classes and in their homeroom classes. Technology instruction is integrated with other subjects, so specific instructional times may vary from grade to grade and year to year, but the IT teachers at ICS track student skills and progress to ensure that students learn effective and advanced skills.

In addition, opportunities for students to learn after school and at home are continually being explored and promoted. After-school activities, independent study courses, and online distance learning activities are a part of our program as well as class instruction.
