“What do kids do in Addis Ababa?”

Last year, our high school counselor, Mr. Don Tingley, offered an information session for high school parents introducing them to the social scene of Addis Ababa outside the gates of ICS. He will continue this information sharing next Thursday, 15 March, at 8:15 AM, in a session on “Raising Teens”, in the ICS cafeteria. Although our high school students have a wide range of activities in school from which to choose, they also have other choices around Addis.

Middle – High School Transition Research at Our School

Our school is proud to be participating in a new study of the changes that students undergo during the transition from middle to high school. Early adolescence is already a time of intense physiological change; add an  increasing workload and the new pressure to earn grades that directly shape your college prospects. Scholarship in this area over the last decade indicates that transitioning to grade 9 is a major event in student’s lives, with significant long-term consequences.

Middle and High School Attendance Procedure

The school asks parents to ensure that their children attend school regularly. We request parents to avoid absences due to convenience, for travel, for vacations during regularly scheduled school days, or on days adjacent to weekends and school holidays.

Middle School Interim Reports

Quarter 3 interim reports have been sent to specific parents and students via email. This report indicates the effort and achievement the student has demonstrated thus far. Students receiving this interim report are demonstrating the need for intervention or support in effort and/or achievement, for a particular course in quarter 3 – NOT ALL STUDENTS RECEIVE THIS REPORT.

Update on Student-led Conferences for the Middle School

Student-led conferences are just a month and a half away! Mark your calendars for 29 and 30 March. The afternoons of these two days will be dedicated to students leading their parents through examples of school work from the 1st and 2nd semesters, explaining what they learned and how they learned it. Information about scheduling your student-led conference will be sent at the beginning of March. Below is a reminder of the benefits of student-led conferences and why the middle school is so excited about them.
