From the Principal

On Wednesday 23 January, Ms. Creamer, Ms. Davis, Ms. Nicholson, Mr. Tamerou and Ms. Johnston will be traveling to Rome for the ELMLE conference. This conference is dedicated to middle school education and one of the key themes this year is programming for advisory. We are looking forward to hearing the speakers and sharing in job-alike sessions with middle school educators from around the world.

Message from MS Principal

Welcome back to everyone in the ICS community. The MS has eight new students, a new math teacher and some new part-time electives teachers. We know that you will all make an effort to help these newcomers feel welcome.

Changes in MS

As this first semester comes to a close, we will be saying goodbye to the following students from the middle school and we wish them all the best in their new locations:

New Mathematics and Science Teacher

Ms. Claire Moriarty will join ICS in the middle and high school in January as a mathematics and science teacher. Ms. Moriarty comes to us from a secondary school in Portland, Australia. With seven years of teaching experience in Australia and Korea, she brings bachelor's degrees in engineering, mathematics and teaching to ICS, along with ESL, elementary, mathematics and general science teaching qualifications. Ms. Moriarty will arrive in early January and will take over five middle/high school mathematics classes added this year due to increased enrollment.

Interim Reports

Interim Reports are being prepared this week and will be sent to parents of middle and high school students in danger of scoring a ‘3’ (mediocre) or lower for the semester. A ‘3’ is the minimum grade for a student to receive credit for that course toward ICS graduation requirements. Students whose achievement has dropped since quarter one will also receive a report.

Interim Reports

The second Interim Report will be prepared at the end of next week. This report indicates achievement and effort. Students who are currently achieving at the “approaching standard” (three) level or below will receive a report from their teachers. Any students whose achievement has dropped since quarter one will also receive a report.
