Elementary Track and Field Meets

The annual elementary track and field meets have been scheduled for the afternoons of 9 February (K-2),and 10 February (grades 3-5). Events are: KG—sprint, sack race and shuttle relay; grades 1-2—sprint, 3-legged race, sack race, ball distance throw and shuttle relay; grades 3-4—lap run, sprint, 3-legged race, sack race, ball distance throw, long jump and shuttle relay; grade 5—lap run, sprint, 3-legged race, sack race, ball distance throw, long jump, high jump and shuttle relay. Students can participate in a minimum of three and a maximum of five events.

Elementary Cross Country Runners at ISSAA Bingham Academy Meet

On Saturday 19 November, eight elementary school runners traveled with the ICS cross country team to participate in the ISSAAA meet at Bingham Academy. All of the runners had trained very hard with Coaches Derek, Marti and Elizabeth on Tuesdays and Thursdays over nine weeks. The following runners should be very proud of their running accomplishments both at their practices and at the Bingham meet: Lenaide Gasc, Lizzie Stifel, Sirah Diallo, Annabelle Chase, Eli Miles, Solomon Cohen, Vincent Sutherland and Wilder Cooke.

Elementary Leadership Leadership Council (ELC)

The Elementary Leadership Council (ELC) finished season 1 with seven of the 24 students, dressed as "pumpkin heads", leading younger students in the trick or treat parade. Throughout the season, the ELC students worked hard to promote the ICS Fall Festival by making posters and signs. In season 2, ELC students have worked on a moon survival team-building activity and sold tickets for the magician shows.

Scholastic Book Club Update

Many thanks to all who purchased books through our most recent book club. As you may be aware, you not only give the gift of reading to your own children but to others in the school through books that we add to classroom libraries. In most cases, the online ordering went smoothly and we appreciate those of you tried this method of ordering. Through the diligent efforts of parents Donna Greig, Maureen Cunningham and Monday Wa-Kyendo, all of the orders have been counted and compiled. A huge thank you to them!

"Meeting our New ICS Friends" Elementary Pizza Luncheons

Last month, Mr. Derek, the elementary counselor, met with all of the new students and their buddies for two pizza luncheons. He thanked the buddies for all of their hard work helping their new friends get used to life at the ICS elementary school. The new students were also able to meet together to celebrate their first month at ICS. All of the new students have been recognized at the elementary assemblies and received welcoming certificates. Scholastic Book Club Orders

We are very pleased to offer our first Scholastic Book Club of the school year! The book club provides you with the opportunity to purchase books for your children although participation is purely voluntary. It also provides many new books for our classroom libraries. The Scholastic Book Club provides a wide range of reading materials for students PK-Grade 8 .

Grade 3-5 Movie Night!

On Friday 4 November, from 6 – 8 PM, the High School Student Council will be hosting a movie night for grades 3, 4 and 5. Tickets will be on sale after the October break, in the morning and after school by the cafeteria. With your ticket you will get a free popcorn and drink.

Trimester 1 Elementary Leadership Council (ELC)

The Trimester 1 Elementary Leadership Council (ELC), which is composed of grades 4 and 5 students, met for the first time this week with Mr. Derek, Elementary Counselor. Throughout all three trimesters of the academic year, every grade 4 and 5 student will be trained in leadership skills as part of the ELC. Mr. Derek will also work with ELC students during enrichment periods. His goal is to empower the ELC students to solve problems and to think of ways to improve ICS both inside and outside of the classroom setting.
