Say THANK YOU…

“…to the great teachers who are never satisfied, always expecting more of themselves and more of their students.”

ICS Addis MAP Scores Above Average

The average student scores at ICS Addis in mathematics and reading are above all comparison groups this year.

The worldwide scores for student proficiency on the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Mathematics and Reading tests were released this week. We can compare our results with four groups: all schools that take MAP assessments, all international schools, all schools in Africa, and all schools in Africa that are supported by the US State Department.

At all but one grade (in reading), our students’ averages are above all these other groups. In many cases—in both mathematics and reading—our students’ averages are significantly above the comparison group averages.

These outstanding results are a tribute to the hard work of all of our teachers and teaching assistants! I hope that parents appreciate the attention that our teachers give to every student. Before you go on holiday, be sure to thank a few teachers who are “always expecting more of their students!”

Need More MAP Information?

The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests are given two times per year to ICS students in grades 2–10. In September, we measure students’ proficiency, compared to their grade-level peers around the world. This answers an important question that parents always want to know, “Is my child at the expected level?” Parents who want their child’s proficiency information in September can call or write one of our school offices, and request the report.

In May we give the MAP tests to the same students. Again, we can compare them to their grade level peers around the world. In May, we can also assess and compare their growth for the school year. This answers a second important question that parents always ask, “Is my child learning at the expected rate?” At the end of May 2017 we will provide MAP reports to all parents because that document shows parents the answers to both questions.

In the meantime, you are welcome to ask at a school office or meet someone from our Office of Teaching and Learning to learn more about MAP assessments and your child’s results.
