Tilahun Assefa
Physics Lab Assistant
Hello Everyone. I am Tilahun Assefa. I received my B.Sc degree from Addis Ababa University, major in Chemistry and minor in Physics. Before coming to ICS, I taught Chemistry and Physics for twelve years in government and private Schools. I worked as a vice principal, science department head and unit leader for seven years in a private school in Addis Ababa.
This is my seventh year at ICS. Currently, I am working as High school Physics lab assistant. For five years I was a liaison person between ICS and Ethiopian ministry of education regarding Ethiopian scholarship students. I always strive to grow professionally. I am attending courses for my masters’ degree in the State University of New York (SUNY). In The year 2009, I participated in IB Chemistry workshop held in the city of Kuwait. This enables me to acquire good experience in the area of International Baccalaureate (IB) chemistry curriculum instruction and assessment.
In September 2010, When ICS Chemistry teacher suddenly departed, I became a long term substitute teacher for the entire first semester until the newly hired chemistry teacher stepped in. This was a great opportunity for me. I hope I did a good job in covering two general chemistry classes, one first year combined IB Standard and Higher level chemistry class and two separate second year IB SL and HL chemistry classes. With a strong commitment I was able to prepare second year IB chemistry students for final Examinations. One proof of this is I was selected by the National Honor Society as one of the four most influential teachers in the high school in the academic year 2009/10.
My hobbies include gardening, watching movies, and reading articles related to science. I like making myself busy on duties which need technical skills.
