Selamawit Sertsu
HS Electives, Drama
My name is Selamawit Sertsu. This is my third year teaching at ICS. I teach HS Anthropology, HS Drama and Yearbook. I studied English Education 7-12 at New York University, earning my Bachelor's degree in 1999. After feeling totally frustrated with the traditional/linear system implemented by the NYC BOE, I decided to continue my post-graduate education at NYU in the progressive field of Educational Theatre (HS), in the hopes of spicing up my classroom. I am licensed/certified in both English and Drama.
While teaching in traditional and non-traditional public and private schools, theatre companies, and outreach, community-based programs in NYC (Brooklyn, Harlem and Manhattan), I started to acknowledge my passion for film making (documentary), activism and creative expression, and cultural studies so I joined NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, earning my second MA degree in Performance Studies. All of my degrees are Honor level.
Furthermore, I enjoy working with the multi-national student body at ICS and consider this to be the highlight of my job.
Please stop by to share your experiences with me.
