Ruth Laney
MS Counselor
This is my fifth year living in Addis Ababa. Although this is the first time I have worked at ICS as the Middle School Counselor, it is not the first time I have been involved in international education. In the past I have worked in ESL, tutoring, editing, elementary art teacher, swim instructor, lifeguard, consultant and assistant.
As I begin my year as a Middle School Counselor, I am so pleased to be able to work with the Middle School faculty, staff and students.
I was born and raised in the state of Oregon, on the west coast of the United States. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Visual Arts, my Masters of Art in TESOL and am currently working on a Masters of Education in International Counseling from Lehigh University.
Ethiopia is the seventh country I have lived in. Prior to this, I have lived in the Netherlands, Kenya, Cyprus, Taiwan and Poland. I enjoy living in different cultures and learning about the people and how they look at life, approach difficulties and celebrate the important seasons of life.
