Letter from PTA president

Dear ICS Community:
When my family arrived in Addis at the beginning of the school year 2008, my oasis was ICS. My children were immediately happy and easily integrated into their new life. ICS is where I met new friends, kept in contact with old friends and learned the necessary survival skills for living in Addis. This place helped me remain sane during a stressful transition time and I want to give back to the school for providing such a safe haven for me and my family. So, when the plea went out for parents to step up for the PTA, I decided that this is my opportunity to pay back. I have been involved in PTAs in other schools and have found them to have a positive effect on the school community. If you feel as I do, please get involved by contacting myself, Paola or Cynthia. If you feel there is room for improvement I urge you to join us and be a part of the solution. We need every parent and teacher to bring positive ideas and energy to support our school.
Paola, Cynthia and I would like to thank all of the parents, teachers and administrators who have worked over the past couple of years to develop the PTA. Your hard work has started the ball rolling with organizing fun family events and creating and approving the by-laws which provide much needed structure. We hope to continue with the good work you have started and will strive to build a strong PTA.
As the PTA is new to the school and in its infancy of development, our priority will be to construct a solid foundation which can be built upon in the coming years. We will create committees to facilitate the obligations of the PTA, actively recruit volunteers and support the greater ICS community. In the past year, the PTA has organized very positive events for the school. If you and your family enjoyed these events and want them to continue, your help is needed. Please review the committees and their descriptions below and contact me today if you are willing to support your school.
I look forward to working closely with the parents, teachers, staff, student groups, the Administration and the Board. It is the cooperation of all of these elements which have brought ICS up to its current high standard. We thank you for your commitment and look forward to supporting you in your efforts to bring this school to greatness. Thank you for your trust and support. I am happy to take on this challenge and hope I can count on every parent and every teacher to commit to becoming actively involved. The PTA will hold its monthly meeting every second Friday of the month. Please mark your calendars and come to the next PTA meeting in the school cafeteria.
