Michael Ryan

HS/IB English, TOK

Hi, my name is Michael Ryan and I have been teaching high school English for 15 years, including Colorado and a Peace Corps term in Eritrea , international schools in Kuwait , Tanzania , Singapore , Thailand and now my third year in Ethiopia at ICS! At ICS, I teach high school English including Grade 9, IBDP A1 and new curriculum, Language A: Literature, and periodically TOK, and also coach the varsity boys basketball team.

I have a degree in Psychology and another in English Literature, and a secondary license in English. I attended Murray State University and University of North Dakota for my Psych degree and the University of Colorado for the English degree and licensure. My teaching philosophy revolves around presenting students with opportunities to become better decision-makers through literature.

I love to mountain bike, play basketball and tennis, listen to music, read and write, travel, safari and photograph. I recently published a book of poetry entitled, “Poetry for Teachers”. I am happy to be back in Africa and look forward to this new year, and living and working in Addis Ababa.
