Hannah Thein
Grade 1
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”-Pablo Picasso
Hello, my name is Hannah Thein, and my husband Niclas and I are excited to join the ICS community this year. I have been a professional educator for 25 years: 20 years of experience as a classroom and EAL teacher, and over five years as a principal, EAL coordinator, and consultant.
For several years I taught grades K-8 in Vermont (many years in grade one and two) before teaching at the Americano Colegio de Quito, in Ecuador and at the American International School in Vienna, Austria. Last year, I taught English as an Additional Language in Montpelier, Vermont. Over the years, I have worked in excellent programs that have provided project-based learning, integrated standards-based instruction, and cooperative learning. I try to provide opportunities for the integration of multiple intelligences into the curriculum.
Niclas and I have a large extended family in Vermont, some of whom will be visiting us here in Ethiopia. In our personal lives, we enjoy biking and hiking, traveling, photography, computers (blogging, research, etc.) and socializing. We very much look forward meeting the members of this welcoming community and exploring Addis Ababa and Ethiopia.
