Elementary School
Dear Elementary Parents,
Welcome to our elementary web page. In it you will find information that will familiarize you with our educational philosophy, curriculum, and the staff that delivers them. One of the things that we hope you notice about our school is that we believe that learning is social and that students working together in cooperative groups can have powerful learning experiences. We strive to provide a quality education to our students by maintaining optimal student teacher ratios and small class sizes. Each of our classrooms from Early Childhood through grade 5 is staffed with a highly qualified teacher and at least one highly qualified teaching assistant. Our student- teacher ratio in the elementary school is 12:1 - that means that for every twelve students there is one qualified adult available to teach.
In the middle school, grades 6-8, our classrooms are staffed with at least one highly qualified teacher in each of the content areas. The middle school classrooms are relatively small, averaging 25 students or less, and the instruction takes place during 90 minute block periods, so that students have sufficient time to build meaning and understanding. Overall, our classrooms are arranged in ways that encourage and enhance cooperative learning and you will often find groups of students huddled around carpets, in reading nooks, or stretched out on the floor discussing books, writing, or a new math algorithm that they learned in school that day.
Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about us. I hope that you enjoy browsing through the links on this page and that the information you find is informative and meaningful.
