Douglas Glenn
6-12 Librarian

My name is Douglas Glenn and I am the secondary librarian (Grades 6-12) at ICS. I have served as the PK-12 librarian here for the past five years, but this year I will focus my attention on the upper grades only. I have a master’s degree in library science (M.L.S.) from Syracuse University, as well as a M.A. degree in English as a Second Language from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a B.A. degree in Psychology and Religion from Duke University.
Being a school librarian is wonderful, because I am in the position to get to know students throughout the school. I particularly enjoy helping students pursue reading for both knowledge and pleasure, and have focused on helping them develop the research skills needed for the efficient and effective location of information that answers academic and personal questions which may arise. In this way, I strive to create independent, yet engaged, lifelong learners. This year, I will be teaching a research skills development course to 7th and 8th graders, so that they will become better prepared to face the demands of high school, college, and beyond.
Unsurprisingly, my interests include reading and travel. I have been to 97 countries so far and have let books transport me to many more places than that. I also enjoy good music and films and any discussions related to what people have read, listened to, seen, and recommended.
