Devon Sigman

Grade 5

I am thrilled to be joining the 5th grade team at the International Community School this year. When my husband Michael Dvorak (4th grade teacher) and I stepped onto the ICS campus last Februray during our ‘global honeymoon’ and were greeted by a warm and professional staff, happy students and lush green campus, we knew we had found our next school.

My interest in Africa began over 10 years ago during a semester abroad program in Botswana. This will be my third time returning to Africa to live and work. Most recently I was a teacher at the International School of Dakar, where I taught third grade and coached both middle school and varsity soccer.

My sense of adventure and curiosity about the world began as a child where I let my imagination run wild at my home in Massachusetts. Since then my husband and I have been filling up our passports together and scheming new ways to combine our love of teaching and travel.

Coming from a family of teachers, it’s no surprise that I too became a teacher and married one as well. I received my undergraduate degree from Middlebury College and have since attained my Masters from Endicott College where I studied International Education and specialized in English as an Additional Language. I believe students are most successful when they are actively engaged and see value in the work they do. I love what I have seen of Ethiopia and ICS thus far and am looking forward to being a part in the ICS community.
