Deron Marvin

Middle School Principal

This is my third year with ICS, and in Ethiopia. My family and I came from our home town in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. My wife, Laurie teaches MS English and art, and LuLu, my daughter, is in second grade this year.

My most recent experience before joining ICS was in Portland, there I worked as a consultant with a firm specializing in import and export compliance. Laurie and I set out overseas in 2002 and landed in Chennai, India. At the American International School – Chennai, I was the Middle School Coordinator and a teacher of middle school. From India, we settled in Guangzhou, China for a three-year stint at the American International School of Guangzhou.

Long before going overseas I worked in San Francisco, California, where I began my career there as a facilities manager (until I got wise to the educational field). While making a transition to education, I worked as a National Park Service Ranger in Montana, U.S.A. I earned a B.A. degree in Liberal Studies/History from San Francisco State University (SFSU), where I also completed my teaching credential. While studying at SFSU, I generated great interest in the structure of schooling and its effect on society. In 2000, I completed my M.A. in Sociology of Education from Columbia University in New York City. And in 2007, I completed an MA in Educational and Organizational Administration from Michigan State University.

I am looking forward to another great year here at ICS.
