Dawn De Koker

Grade 1

I am Dawn De Koker and it is my privilege to be a part of the dynamic team of educators here at ICS Addis. I will be teaching first grade and am excited to have the opportunity to teach your child this school year. South Africa is my country of origin and a place that is very close to my heart, however, my teaching experience lies in the international arena. Previously I have taught in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and most recently, China. This will be my 13th year as a classroom teacher with most of my experience in the lower elementary grades.

 My husband, Andre, and our 2 children, Kayleigh and Ethan, will be joining the family here at ICS. Together we enjoy exploring new places, walking in nature, swimming and spending time with friends. Drawing and painting is something I love to do in my spare time as well as spending time reading good literature. Some of my favorite children’s authors are; Mem Fox, Roald Dahl, Cynthia Rylant, and Lois Lowry.

I believe it is essential that teachers and parents work together as a team to support student learning and to ensure success. It is my goal that your child succeeds both in their academic endeavors and in their social development. I trust that over the course of the year the students will develop a true love for reading, an enthusiasm for writing, and a desire to learn new things.
