Dawn Ashby
MS Science/Math, MS Physical Education

This will be my 10th year at the International School of Addis Ababa. I am a Middle School teacher, specializing in 6th grade Math and Science. I also teach Physical Education and coach the Varsity Girls volleyball and basketball teams. I have seen a lot of great improvements at ICS over the past 10 years and I am very excited about this 2010-2011 school year.
The 1 to 1 laptop program beginning this year at ICS is huge step towards bringing our education system into the 21st century. The 6th grade and 10th grade will be piloting this program and I feel very fortunate to be a part of this new development.
Outside of school time when I am not coaching my beloved Varsity girls sports teams, I enjoy spending time with my little boy Julian, playing tennis against my husband and enjoying Sunday morning family swims. If time allows, our family likes to go down to Lake Langano, camp under our favourite acacia tree, play in the sand and swim in the warm mineral water.
My background includes growing up on the west coast of Canada, in the beautiful city of Vancouver. I earned my Bachelor degree in Science from the University of British Columbia and my Masters degree in Education from MUM, Iowa. I have taught at two private schools in the US, New York and Iowa, before coming to Ethiopia. Currently, I am working on another masters degree in education with the ICS SUNY Masters program.
I really love working with the students at the International Community School of Addis Ababa and I am dedicated to helping each student and our school reach its full potential. It's going to be a very dynamic and exciting year!
