Bryan Renzi
HS/ IB English

This is my third year teaching at ICS – I will be teaching 10th Grade English, 11th Grade IB English Language and Literature, and IB Theory of Knowledge, as well as serving as an advisor for the 11th grade. Additionally, I will be the head coach of JV Boys Basketball.
I’m originally from New York City, where I received a BA in English from Columbia University. Thanks to ICS’ SUNY program, I finished my MA in Education last year. Previously, I have taught in New York, Turkey, and Malawi.
I try to ground the topics I teach with real world connections wherever possible, as I have also held a number of jobs that revolve around the skills I learned in the English classroom as a student – I have worked at a newspaper, a radio station, and a TV network. I’ve also been a career counselor for prospective trade apprentices, written the backs of baseball cards, and acted in a TV commercial. I try to bring elements of each of these jobs into the classroom for students to explore.

Ethiopia has been a great place to live, as it has made it easy for me to enjoy many of my interests, including history, music, film, art, travel, wildlife, and, of course, food. I’ve also been active in local theatre groups and like playing and watching sports. However, as I have long been a fan of the Mets, the NBA, and the NFL, I feel I have recently been rooting for an unending series of lawsuits. Let's go injunctions! Each of my cats (pictured) are named after my favorite recent out-of-court settlements.
Looking forward to another year of working with the great staff and students we have here at ICS!
