Brenda Lyons
HS/ IB French and Spanish
My name is Brenda Lyons and I am presently the High School French and Spanish teacher here at ICS. This is my fourth year at ICS and I absolutely love both the school and living in Addis.
I am originally from the state of Vermont in the north eastern part of the U.S. I graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Secondary Education. I was lucky enough to start my international teaching career right away first in the Virgin Islands and later moving on to Venezuela and Colombia. I then left Colombia to get my M.A. in English as a Second Language at the University of Hawaii. After that I taught Middle School through university ESL/EFL in both Malaysia and Taiwan.
At the end of my 8 years of teaching at the Taipei American School, I decided to make the transition from ESL/EFL teacher to Spanish and French teacher. For both my French and Spanish teaching licenses, I studied at the University of Wisconsin as well as in Mexico, Paris, Southern France and Montreal. After completing my language licenses, I taught French in Malaysia and Venezuela and Spanish in Pakistan and Greece.
One of the reasons that I am overseas is that I love to travel. I also enjoy playing tennis, cooking, hiking and practicing yoga. Presently I am teaching yoga at ICS for both adults and kids and will be starting a NIA dance class very soon.
