Betty Chang

MS/HS Band, Choir

This is my second year teaching at ICS. I will be teaching elementary 5th grade band with Mr. Olaf Boelson, middle school band, middle school percussion rota, high school band and high school choir.

I was born in Taipei, Taiwan and have spent a third of my life in Taiwan, America and teaching internationally. I have taught elementary music, strings, band, choir and IB music in different schools: Taipei American School, International School of Bangkok, American School of Warsaw, Jakarta International School and now International Community School of Addis Ababa. I am so pleased to be returning to ICS!

I received my Bachelor’s of Music Education degree from Wheaton College in Illinois, USA. After teaching in Poland, I attended the University of Southern California to receive my Masters of Music in Music Education degree. I have accompanied several choral festivals through the Association of Music for International Schools (which is where the above picture was taken).

Recently, I adopted a puppy named Fireball and he has kept me quite busy! He is a Labrador, German shepherd and street dog mix and is one years old. I am learning how to train and teach Fireball good manners and have experienced a few victories! If you meet him, please do not hesitate to say hello – he loves his tummy rubbed!

In addition to Fireball, I have many hobbies such as: volleyball, basketball, swimming, doing artwork, watching good movies, listening to live jazz, traveling, canoeing, kayaking, camping, bicycling and eating delicious food from all over the world!!!
