Asit Mesvani

HS/IB Physics, Algebra

My name is Asit Mesvani. I teach Physics and a couple of electives at ICS. I am an Indian citizen but was born and brought up here in Addis Ababa.

My wife Charu works in ECE 3 at ICS and my daughter Komal goes to grade 10 at ICS. This is my 15th year teaching at ICS. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Physics from South Gujarat University, India in 1990. In 2007, I completed my Masters in Education from Oxford Brookes, UK. At present, I am working on my second Master of Science in multi disciplinary programs (Education) from State University of New York (SUNY), Buffalo State.

Although I grew up with Indian traditions and culture, Ethiopia has always been home for me. I cannot imagine living anywhere else because most of my family and friends live here. I always describe Ethiopia as “Heaven on Earth” because of the awesome climate, awesome people, and exotic food.

I speak Gujarati, Hindi, Amharic, and English! My experience at ICS has been very enriching as ICS has given me numerous opportunities to grow professionally. However, I enjoy working at ICS mainly because of the diversity in the student population which allows me to know, learn, and appreciate a variety of cultures. With more than 50 nationalities represented by the student body, it truly teaches one a lot. Teaching IB Physics has been my passion even though the subject is often misconceived as a difficult/boring subject by many. I LOVE PHYSICS!
My favorite sport obviously is Cricket! However, I enjoy bowling and volleyball too! I love to hear Indian classical music especially Sitar and Flute. I also love singing Indian songs. I am not an avid reader but I wish I could spend more time reading rather than watching TV!

I am looking forward to yet another great year at ICS!
