Alexandra Mirkowski
Elementary Computer

My name is Alexandra Mirkowski. This is my seventh year at ICS. I am the Elementary School Computer teacher; I teach students in Pre-Kindergarten to grade 5.
I am originally from New York. However, I have spent a lot of time living and going to school in different countries.
I earned my B.A. with Honors in French and Italian in 1996 at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. In 2002 I received my M.A. in Media Studies at The New School for Social Research and this spring, a M.S. in Multidisciplinary Studies from SUNY Buffalo State. I also have certificates in teaching English as a Foreign Language and in Filmmaking.
I have been teaching computers for the past five years. However, I have also taught Video Journalism and French at ICS. My job at ICS also gives me the opportunity to develop my creative skills. I design, edit and put together the Zena Admas, a school publication that comes out twice a year and I also have the opportunity to create videos for the school. Prior to coming to Addis, I lived in New York and worked as a Training Specialist at Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank.
My hobbies include making short films, reading, traveling and playing Lego with my son Giuseppe who will be in grade 1 this year.
I enjoy working at ICS because of its international environment. I love working with the children. They keep my ideas flowing and they teach me something new everyday.
