Welcome to 8th Grade World Cultures - also known as Social Studies! In this year long course, we will build on your understanding of how humans interact: how they live, work, and play together.
Exploring areas such as community, culture, technology, governance, economics, education, religion, history, geography and the environment, we will undertake an exciting journey that will lead us through different cultures, time zones and faith systems.
Skills developed will include gathering, applying and presenting information; improving our group and interpersonal skills; and problem solving and research skills.
Historical periods will include the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance; the Reformation; the Scientific Revolution and the Rise of Islam.
- Students will study the development of civilization and the basics of anthropology, archaeology, history and geography, including map-reading skills. Emphasis will be placed on the study of the Middle Ages and feudalism
across the modern. Throughout the course, students will work independently and in groups on a variety of activities designed to enhance intellectual and emotional growth. Emphasis is given towards improving critical thinking and study skills.
