Program
ICS believes that athletics are a positive and powerful motivator for students to perform better in all facets of school life. Athletics is one way for our students to grow and mature as healthy, well-rounded and socially well adjusted citizens. By encouraging commitment, determination and teamwork we feel that our students will benefit greatly as they will apply these skills in other areas of their life. We truly hope that the students will take advantage of the athletic opportunities offered to them in order to make their school career a richer experience.
The objective of the Athletic program at ICS is to provide our students an opportunity to be involved in athletic activities in order develop a positive character-building experience outside of regular school hours. ICS's goal is to become the most "well-respected," most sportsmanlike and disciplined sports program in Africa, ISSEA and ISSAAA. ICS plans to accomplish this goal by being true to our Athletic Code of Conduct:
- I cooperate with my coach, my teammates & my opponents
- I applaud all good plays ( of my own team & that of my opponent)
- I work hard for my team and give 100%
- I treat all players as I would like to be treated
- I never argue with an official
- I always compose myself
- It's fun to be around my team, my coach and me
Our program is intended to be all-inclusive. Students will have an opportunity to participate in both competitive and/or non-competitive sport teams. Non-competitive sports will be offered during lunch breaks in the gym when possible.
ICS students have the opportunity to compete in a nine team local league (ISSAAA) in Addis Ababa. Local teams compete in Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Tennis, Track & Field and Cross-Country.
Our Varsity teams have the opportunity to travel for volleyball, soccer and basketball to international tournaments within the ISSEA league. ICS's Track & Field team travels to Cairo and participates at the Junior, JV and Varsity levels. Teams are divided into the following age classifications:
