Important Notices for All Parents

News from the Health Office

The Health Office team at ICS would like to extend a warm welcome to all students, parents, and new and returning staff. We hope you had a relaxing break and we are all so excited to meet all of you and we are looking forward to working with you and your children during the 2016–17 school year.

To ensure everyone’s health and safety on the ICS campus we would like to share the following important information with you:

  • We live in a high altitude region: Stay hydrated, rest, reduce salt intake, and eat fruits that contain potassium, sleep well and visit your doctor as needed.
  • Drink boiled or filtered water or buy bottled water from a store. Tap water is not safe to drink.
  • Due to recent acute watery diarrhea (AWD) cases in town, we recommend to avoid eating fresh fruits and raw vegetables. 
  • Wash hands before and after using the bathroom. Do not share utensils, water bottles, towels or combs. Cough and sneeze into your elbow or use tissues and after wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.
  • Contact the school office or the Health Office to inform us if your child is sick and he or she should be free of a temperature and vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • NO child is to take or carry PRESCRIPTION or OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS to school without informing the Health Office. If you administer medication to your child before he/she comes to school, which could affect his/her performance, please send in a note to the teacher.
  • Inform the Health office if your child requires emergency medication for allergies, asthma etc. and bring the medication and the doctor prescription or plan of care to our office.

2016-17 Calendars

Are here and will be distributed to Families on Friday or Monday.  As with all ICS publications, one calendar per family and it will be sent home with your youngest child.

Please note that throughout the year sometimes/dates will change and to always refer to the Yezare for the most up to date information.

 

Note from ICS Security Office

Private Family/Household Staff need to have an Ethiopian Police Background check in order to receive an ICS Badge allowing them on campus.  Please click HERE for the full process. 

The Police will be on campus on Saturdays (13, 20 and 27 August) to process background checks or you can have your house hold staff processed at the Police Forensics Office, near the Immigration Office, opposite the entrance to the Black Lion Hospital.  Family/Household staff must sign up by Thursday to be processed on Saturday.

If your staff member has already registered for this Saturday 13 August, be sure they bring the completed green application from ICS reception, the completed police clearance letter, a current ID and two passport photos (1 for clearance, 1 photo ICS ID badge).

ICS Vehicle Sticker

Be sure to register your car and collect an ICS Vehicle Sticker for parking in the main parking lot and surrounding school areas.  You can register and collect your sticker with security at the main gate.

Parent ID Badges

We are still processing all the new badges and will let you know via email and/or the Yezare when you can collect your ID.  Thanks for your patience.

 

Notice from the Business Office

The tuition and fee bills for first semester was sent home with students on 10 August 2016, please check in your youngest child’s school bag. We’ve also sent an electronic copy of the billing statements for parents who’ve requested to receive the billing information via email. If you did not receive the billing statement, please feel free to contact the ICS Business Office (business.office@icsaddis.edu.et) and a copy will be provided. Please be informed that payment for the entire First semester tuition and fees must be paid by 26 August 2016.

If you already have paid the fees mentioned above, please kindly disregard this memo. However, we kindly request your assistance in providing proof of payment so that we can allocate the unidentified deposits with the proper charges.

 

ICS Booster Club News

Due to the weather and the construction in the Community Commons area, there will be NO Farmer's Markets until September 2016.  The first Farmer's Market will be Friday 9 September.

Sports Pavilion Update

Coming soon to ICS Addis will be a new Sports Pavilion that will provide much-needed PE, ASAs and sports program space! Get ready for a structure that will cover four basketball courts with lines for four volleyball courts, four tennis courts, and eight badminton courts as well. When it’s finished, the facility will make more spaces available to our ICS community during the rainy season, at night and weekends.

You may be wondering about the former tennis courts and your access to them this year. “When will they be open? When can I work on my backhand again?” In essence that space will not be available first semester. We anticipate opening it for PE classes and other uses by the end of January 2017.

The construction fence is going up. The trees are coming down. Permanent cement steps will be installed outside of the structure and facing the track for spectators to sit on during upper field events. A ramp will be installed that will allow movement of large and heavy equipment in and out of the pavilion to maximize its use. The contractor is Elmi Olindo. The project management and design team is ZIAS. Take a look at the designs!

     

Community Commons Update

On June 10, 2016, a construction team began in earnest to add a 300 cubic meter water tank to our campus, thus replacing 21 cubic meter tank in the ground. It will add to the 27 cubic meter water tower providing enough water for the New Classroom Block (NCB) and the fire suppression system for the NCB. The Community Commons and white storage structure had to be dismantled, and the old water tank removed. With the new water tank nearly finished, the contractor will reconstruct a new purpose-built Community Commons and purpose-built structure for storage and service, in about 2 month’s time! Thank you for your patience.

Elmi Olindo is the contractor, RAAS Architect is the designer of the new Community Commons, and ZIAS is the project management team. The new and improved Community Commons will provide larger, uninterrupted covered space for multiple events in the future, parents during the day, Farmer’s Market, students and families at hosted tournaments, and more! It will be a nice addition for our community and for all the event set-ups it will accommodate. Take a look at the designs!

     

 

Former ICS Addis Alumni Reaches Quarter Finals at Rio 2016 Olympics

     

One of our alumni, Nadia Negm, is in the Rio Olympics, rowing for Egypt. She was enrolled in 7th grade and attended middle school here at ICS in school year 2010-11. At age 18, she is one of the youngest competitors in Rio 2016 Olympics. This entails the foundation of our mission:

Nurturing the talents, character and intellect of all learners, challenging them to be a positive influence and empowering them to excel in their world.

ICS Addis opens worlds where students will realize their dreams and become part of history. All the best for Nadia Negm on her Women’s Single Sculls quarterfinals.

 

ICS Cafeteria Food Service Provider

Addis International Catering (AIC) will be our student cafeteria service provider for the SY 2016/2017 and 2017/2018.  ICS has entered a contract with AIC to provide students, faculty, staff, parents and visitors with a balanced and attractive variety of safe, tasty, healthy and nutritional snacks and meals.

Our Cafeteria staff are ready to serve you with a variety of health-conscious meals that are changed regularly and published weekly in the Yezare Samint and on the ICS website under Menu/student life/Cafeteria.

 

Cafeteria Information

Addis Catering (AIC) provides food service for lunch as well as a snack bar window. Price list for daily available items can be found HERE.

Suggestion Box

We are open for any ideas, suggestions and feedback on our cafeteria services. Please use the suggestion box located at the counter of the snack bar area.

Buffet Prices for SY16/17

The buffet lunch and salad bar prices will be as follows:

EC – grade 2: 45 birr, Grades 3 – 5: 55 birr, Grades 6 – 8: 65 birr, Grades 9 –12: 70 birr

Cafeteria service Hours

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, the hours will be from 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Wednesday with early release at 2:00 PM, the cafeteria/snack bar will close at 2:20 PM

Message to Parents from Addis International Catering

Dear Students, Parents & Staff members of ICS,

We are pleased to inform you that starting from Tuesday 9 August, Addis International Catering (AIC) has started operating the ICS cafeteria.

Our products and services will be available exclusively to you, students, families, staff members and the ICS community with an attractive assortment of breakfast, lunch, breads and pastries.

Refreshments and catering services can be arranged for various functions. This may be served by our staff at your office or preferred venue or you can collect your order from the Cafeteria.

A wider standard supply of products will be readily available at all times; from 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday with the exception of Wednesdays which runs until 2:30 PM. On Saturdays, the cafeteria operates from 8:00 AM -12:00 PM.

We hope you’ll enjoy our various products and you’re welcome to provide feedbacks to help improve our product lines or services.
