Message from the Head of School

Welcome to ICS Addis,

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the ICS Addis website.

Our caring team works hard everyday to provide a world-class, 21st Century international learning environment for our students. Our purpose-built facilities are designed to support the diverse learning needs of each child. Our faculty includes 120 full - or part–time teachers and other professionals, and 50+ teaching assistants and IT support.

Our Elementary school is accredited as a Primary Year Program (PYP) School. Our students in grades 2–9 regularly perform at or above the 85th percentile for reading and math compared with private schools in the USA. At the top end, our International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program is inclusive and we expect most of our students in grades 11 and 12 to challenge themselves with IB courses and give them a go. We have a strong record of providing the support needed for all our students to succeed in the highly challenging IB Diploma program.

But numbers alone don’t capture the heart, spirit or culture of our school. Teachers at ICS know that learning must go far beyond what goes on in the articulated curriculum. We aim for more than high scores on tests. In classrooms from early childhood to IB science labs, students actively develop the skills, dispositions and cultural competence required for success and contribution to this ever-changing and complex world.

Inquiry, research, problem solving and the “Learner Profile” are embedded into instruction at all levels of the school. As a newcomer to ICS I have been humbled by how committed and skilled ICS teachers are at providing the holistic learning that our vision and mission demands. You can read more about what we believe 21st century learning looks like in our school’s core documents.

I have found the ICS Addis website to be a valuable resource.  I am sure that you will as well. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have, particularly if you may be planning to move to Ethiopia in the near future.
