6th Annual Cancer Run/Walk at ICS
The Terry Fox Run event will be hosted here at ICS on Friday 13 October from 11:30 AM–12:30 PM. This event is a partnership between ICS staff, the Canadian Embassy and the Mathiwos Wondu YeEthiopia Cancer Society here in Addis.
Terry Fox was a young Canadian back in 1980 who decided to run across Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer research. He was a cancer patient himself who had lost a leg to cancer prior to his commitment to run across Canada. He made it over 5000km before the cancer forced him to stop and later claimed his life. Annually, Canadians and others around the world continue his legacy by running to raise awareness and money for cancer treatment and research.
The Mathiwos Wondu YeEthiopia Cancer Society is a local Ethiopian Charity that supports children with cancer for treatment. This often involves sending individuals abroad for treatment because of a lack of treatment options here in Ethiopia. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the Mathiwos Wondu YeEthiopia Cancer Society.
There will also be support from the Great Ethiopian Run office, which hopefully will involve the participation of one or two of Ethiopia's elite distance runners.
